w/ Ashley Spedale

PODCAST INTRO:

You are tuning in to the Sacred Wealth Podcast, I am your host Meaghan and I am so excited to have you here. Throughout my ten years in finance, I have come across so much anxiety and fear surrounding money. It is now my purpose to help women become rich unapologetically.

The goal of this podcast is to empower you to love your debt, to be so ecstatically grateful for what you have, and to feel safe to ask for more. Together we will figure out what your luxury is and get you on the path to financial freedom. Let’s fucking go.

EPISODE INTRO:

Hi, everyone. Welcome back to the Sacred Wealth Podcast. I'm so happy that you're here and that I'm in your little ears. I am so excited for this episode today because today is an interview that I had with my former coach Ashley. And I just love this interview so much because we really get to talk about some practical tips that I don't think I've ever shared on the podcast before. So that's why I love sharing these old podcast interviews is because every single one of them is so different, and we talk about such a wide breadth of topics and education. So I love the questions that actually asks.

And as always, if you love this episode, please leave me a five-star review on Apple, and I really want to start using the Anchor Voice Memo feature. So if you have a question that you'd like answered in a future podcast or if you have a review, if you have a personal story, maybe I've helped you open a new Bank account. Feel free to send in a voice note, a voicemail through anchor, and the link to that is in my bio in my Linktree, and it'll be in the show notes as well. Yeah, that would be so cool. I really want to start featuring listener reviews on the podcast and continuing to offer free coaching. If you leave me a review and I'm going to start choosing, I'd say like 4 to 5 every month to do free coaching for and you might get your review featured on the podcast. So stick around to the end of this podcast for the outro where I'm going to read some lucky reviewers, five-star review, and maybe it'll be yours.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Welcome Meaghan. I'm so excited for you to be here. Meaghan is one of my clients. She is so magical and I'd love for you to share some of your story and your light and your sparkle and tell people how you got to where you are right now.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah. I'm so excited to be here. Thank you for having me. So my name is Meaghan and I have a company called Sacred Numbers Finance and I have been working for myself for about a year and a half and have been in finance for almost 10 years. Next year it'll be 10 whole years of working as a bookkeeper and as that financial go-to for a lot of entrepreneurs. So I am really into like all things witchy and like the moon and I just really enjoy working with spiritual entrepreneurs. They really light me up because they have such a- a love for their own lives. They're always trying to make themselves better than they were the day before and really trying to spread their own light in the world.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

I love that so much. And I love how, when we talk about your brand, how it's so niche and so specific to supporting certain kinds of entrepreneurs who really have like a soul-prenuer vibe and like they are spiritual, a little bit woo woo. But really they're heart-centered. And I love that that is how you're connected to them with their mission.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah, absolutely. It's really not so much- like their business doesn't have to necessarily be the spiritual part. Like they could be a social media manager, but if they themselves, personally, are really into self-development and like the witchy and the woo woo, I think we always get along very well. So regardless of whether or not you work in the spiritual world or you are spiritual at all in yourself, I think we'll work well together.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. So thank you for sharing that. And I'd love to support our listeners right now. Some of them are new entrepreneurs. Some of them maybe are a little bit further down the road. And maybe you could talk about how some people could get started with financial things, I'm going to say, because I feel like in the beginning you don't really know all the things, right? Like I still don't know all of the things. And yeah, if you could give some education on how to help people in the beginning.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah. So in the beginning, I think it's so important if you're not doing anything else, if you're not doing your bookkeeping, if you're not doing anything else, but just separating your personal transactions from your business transactions. That's so important. Having a separate bank account for those business transactions is going to set you up for when you do start tracking those, your books and your income and expenses. It's going to help you later on down the road when you actually hire a financial professional. And it's also going to help you, whenever you file for an LLC, if that's what you choose to designate your company as, because it allows you to legally hold up that LLC designation. Because once you start co-mingling is when that LLC designation breaks down and it doesn't hold any water legally.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Yeah. That's so important. I actually want to ask you too, like when do you think is the right time for somebody to actually create that LLC?

MEAGHAN WALL:

I literally created my LLC like last month. So I don't think it's, I don't think it's a requirement at all. I think that once you hit a certain threshold, you kind of want to be a little bit more professional. You're not running your business under your own name. You want to have an entity that's going to separate your personal assets from your business assets. And so as soon as that's important to you, that's as soon as you should form the LLC. I mean, there is no like certain time, it's just whenever you're ready to like, "Hey, I would rather not have my house taken away because I get sued."

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Yeah. Yeah, no, it's important. I mean, I'm sure people listening like have that question and a lot of people think they have to have all of the things set in place to get started in whatever it is that they want to do. So I think it's good that we talk about that.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Absolutely. And I think that it's important to also say that you don't have to file anything really, like to the government. As long as you're filing your Schedule C with your personal taxes and you're telling the government that, "Hey, I'm making money outside of a normal nine to five job. I'm having a side hustle and this is how much I've made." As long as you're telling the government you have made some money, that's as far as you need to go. That's considered a sole proprietor and you file taxes within your own tax return, your personal tax return.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Awesome. Awesome. That's really, really good to know again, because like I said, I'm sure a lot of people are very, very unclear. When you work with your clients, what do you find people having the biggest questions about that they're unsure of?

MEAGHAN WALL:

What I hear is how do I save money while also being able to live my life and not feeling like I have to stay in my house 24 hours a day and not do anything. And I think it's really important to cut costs relentlessly for the things that you can live without and spend extravagantly on the things that you love and that fill you up. So say, for example, you love bath products. Like you go to Lush and you spend a hundred dollars a month on bath bombs and you love it, but you could totally live without that latte that you buy every single day on your way to work. It's all about your priorities and really, truly sticking up for like your soul's desires, so that if you can live without something, just get rid of it. Like you don't need it and spend more on filling up your cup and that way you'll- your life will be so much richer.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Hmm. Yeah. That's a great tip. That's such a great tip. I think that that is so true, right? When you are at the beginning of your business, it's like, "How do I pay myself?" Right? Like where does that, how does that work? Do you have tips for that as well?

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah. So me personally, I take home about 50% of all of my income, but I'm also saving at certain percentages for taxes. I'm saving certain percentages for my emergency fund. So after I set aside those things, I make sure that I actually pay myself because that's how I'm filling my cup. Like I was talking about before, you have to get paid from your business and be sustained, in order for your business to be sustainable. So as much as we love our clients and as much as we love the work, if you can't live, you're not going to be inspired to continue doing what you're doing. And money is there for you. And money is there to support you in that way.

So a lot of times, what I see with spiritual entrepreneurs also is that they feel like since they're spiritual, they can't charge high value for their services. Because they feel like it's misaligned to charge a lot to be of service to people. And that's just absolutely not true. God, the universe, whoever you decide is your higher power, maybe it's yourself, you wouldn't have these gifts if you are not meant to be able to sustain yourself with those gifts.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Absolutely. I could not agree more, especially with my clients. That is something that we talk about very often is knowing your worth, stepping into that. It's okay to have high ticket offers. Like you get to have those.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Hmm. Yeah. That's beautiful. And I think it's also important that like you get to have high ticket offers, as well as like- charging your worth, I think is such an ambiguous term of like, "Well, I think I'm worth a million bucks." Right? So where's the balance of like how much people are willing to pay versus how much you want to charge. So like you could have all the worth in the world, but you're not going to be able to charge a million. I mean, I can't say that. Certain things are not going to be able to charge a million dollars for a service, especially not at the beginning, especially if you're not the go-to resource for your field.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Right. Very much in the beginning. Right. Hey, you never know. Maybe you can charge a million dollars for your service one day. It's possible. It's so possible. But, yeah. Yeah. I hear what you're saying.

MEAGHAN WALL:

And I encourage you to like fucking go for that. You know, like if you can get people to pay you a million dollars, first of all, share with me your secrets so I can do that as well. And more power to you.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

I think that somebody like Oprah, you know, like Oprah can charge a million dollars for like, just showing up at an event.

MEAGHAN WALL:

She doesn't get out of bed for less than a million dollars.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Probably not. I mean like that woman's a genius. But if we look at somebody like her, like where she came from, and like look at her now. Yeah. It's so possible. Absolutely possible. And that's somebody who definitely knows her worth. And it's like, how much value are you going to add? How much education? How are you going to lift up your clients? And also with an investment too, I want to share this and let me know if you- if you agree on this, Meaghan. When you are investing into a service and you're hiring a mentor or a coach, the bigger the investment, number one, you want to make sure like you're getting a transformation and you align with that person. You click with that person and you're going to do the work and you're going to show up because you invested into yourself.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Mm, absolutely. And I think it's, for me, it was so apparent in like me paying for a gym. So I used to go to Planet Fitness, right? Like 20 bucks a month. And then I never, ever, ever went. And it's something that's like the vibe there was not great. It was in this weird warehouse thing, like in a weird part of town. So I just never went. And then I decided that I wanted to upgrade my gym membership. So I started going to Lifetime, which was a solid 30 minute drive from my house, not convenient at all. And it was $250 a month, which is easily the most expensive monthly expense I have for my personal life. But I went every single day and it's something that's like, you either pay for something that, you know, that you're going to get the worth out of. You know that you're going to get the vibes, the high, high value return, and you put your all into it. And that's,what's most important because you can pay for something that's $20 a month and never go.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Right. I love the gym membership analogy because it's so true. When I had a membership to Planet Fitness, I never went, I never went. And if I invest into something for my health and my fitness that is more, you bet your butt I'm going

MEAGHAN WALL:

Right. And if you're paying more, you're probably getting more of the upgrades, the spa, the pool, which I loved going to the pool at Lifetime. And it's something that I made sure that I could go. Even if I wasn't going to work out necessarily, it was a self-care day. I used to go on Sundays all the time, just because I could go sit in the sauna and relax and not have to worry about doing an actual workout because that wasn't my intention either. But it sucks because when I moved, there's no Lifetime Fitnesses anywhere near me. I mean probably an hour away, which is sad.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

That’s totally inconvenient then.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah. Absolutely

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

I'm sure you can find something else that feels similar by you. I hope you can.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah, I've looked briefly, but I haven't been able to find anything.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Yeah. It gives you that luxury feel to be able to go to somewhere like that. So I want you guys to think about that when you are investing in yourselves, whether it's a service or gym membership or a car or house, or what does that make you feel like? Does it make you feel uncomfortable? Does it make you feel good? Does it make you feel like you don't deserve it? Um, these are all things that will come up for you. And I'd love for you to speak into a little bit of how that connects to like some money mindset.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah. So I think it has a lot to do with VIP-ing in your life. Once you start putting that value on your dollar. So instead of having all of these tiny little subscriptions here and there, $20 to Planet Fitness, $20 to Spotify, all of these things that are tiny and don't mean much to you and maybe use them very rarely. You're not putting value behind your dollar. You're not using the dollar intentionally or putting awareness behind it at all. And this is not me telling you to like, spend the most on every single thing in your life. I think that's poor advice, but I also think that for the things that are worth it to you, like we were talking about before, the self care, the baths, going to Lush. Because Lush isn't cheap, right? So you can either-

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

That's an investment.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Right. You can either, go to Walmart and be in that environment. Everyone knows what a Walmart feels like versus what does Lush feel like? Lush is handmade vegan products and the vibe, the people who work there are so ready to help you. There's just a difference with where the dollar goes. Putting that awareness behind each dollar that you spend and being very selective about the vendors, about the people you decide to support with your money is the most important part. Because money is power, right? And money makes the world go round and you get to say, you make your vote, on whatever it is based on where you spend your money and where you send that money.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

For somebody that's listening that is like really uncomfortable with the word, period, and like all of it, there's a lot of people associate money as like evil or bad and like not good. Do you have any suggestions on how people can work through that to build a better relationship with money?

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah. So a lot of what my clients and I do is just money awareness. Like I was speaking of before, is a lot of the negative feelings around money comes from being avoidant and being scared to look at your bank account. So my biggest piece of advice would be just log into your bank account and say thank you to that money for being there and thank you to the money that's not there. So thank you to the money that you've already spent to get to where you are today. So maybe that's paying your rent. So you had a thousand dollars yesterday, $500 of it's gone. So you only have $500 left. So you get to say thank you to that $500 for putting a roof over your head, keeping you warm at night. And you also get to say thank you to that $500 that's sitting in your bank, keeping it warm is how I say, so that whenever you need it, you get to tap into it. And once you start being grateful and thankful, everything just falls into place from there. It's a hard journey. It's a long journey.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

It's a long journey.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah. Because you also get to be thankful for the negative balances and the zero balances. And I know that's difficult.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Yeah. It's really difficult. And something that I have learned throughout the years, which is a concept that I personally love and like I believe in, is that money is energy, right? Because at this point in our lives, most of us don't really hold money that often in our hands. It's just like, we see the numbers in our bank account and then like we send it to different places. So it's actually like invisible. It's just energy of like, think about back to the times where we had barter systems, which potentially like, cause currently like we are recording this during the pandemic and I've heard people say like, "Oh, we're going to go back to more like tribal times and community times where maybe like we will be trading like, you know, five rolls of toilet paper for three dozen eggs. Like what you have, I don't have and what you have, I don't have, so let's help each other out." So if you think of it like that, that's like an energetic exchange, right?

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah. Money is such a positive, it can be such a positive form of energy. And once you start being grateful and once you start ascending it with love and acceptance and joy, it gets to serve the people that you're sending it to in a positive way as well. And kind of how I serve my clients is, I serve as a barrier between other people and my clients money. So money tends to take on the energy of whoever is holding it, whoever is sending it.

So if I have a client who's got somebody begging for money, there's a lot of desperation. There's a lot of negativity toward their money. I get to step in and be an advocate for their money and be that barrier between them and whether that's collections, whether or not that's paying somebody, maybe you're late on a bill and they have this desperation, I'm protecting my clients in that way.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

I love that so much. Let's shift into something that I love so much, that I know that you love so much, which is manifestation.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yay!

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Let's jam out on some manifesting. And if you've been hanging around, you know I talk about manifesting a lot, but for those of you that are new, maybe this will support you in learning or navigating or understanding how manifestation actually works and what you can do to just start simply today manifesting.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah. So right now I'm definitely working on my own manifestation of more money. And that, for me, looks like diversifying my income streams. So for a long time, it's just been me trying to promote my financial services through Instagram, which has gotten me so far in, you know, I'm doing well so far. But now, like literally yesterday, I started posting on Upwork and other freelancers sites like that because I'm trying to bring in more. Right? And that's part of the inspired action of manifestation. You can journal, you can visualize, you can act as if all of these things that we're told about manifestation, but without taking the actual inspired action, it will not come. It will not come.

And you may get a surprise check for a hundred dollars here and there, but that's not sustainable wealth. That's not going to bring you the millions of dollars that you so desire inside. That's going to be small potatoes, which absolutely be thankful for those small checks. Absolutely. But in order to bring in the sustainability, in order to bring in the diversity, you have to diversify and that's where I'm at right now. So as well as, I'm trying to apply for like some babysitter, nannying positions because so many people are at home. And I think it's important to give mommas and daddies their own space right now.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

I love that so much. And it's like, that's perfect too, because like, look, people need that right now. Right? And it's extra income for you, but you're also doing somebody else a service that they desperately need right now. Right? We're all like in shelter, not supposed to be leaving our homes really, except for the necessities, and I'm sure moms and dads like really could use the help.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah. Especially in being around your family 24/7, like as much as we love our family, everybody knows how that can be.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Oh yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely. So if you are new to manifesting or maybe you've been manifesting a while, what would you say is like a baby step? Because inspired action is so important, right? Like it's not like you don't act on what you're calling in. It might come really quickly and then it might take longer. Um, and we talk about vision boards and like how you can create imagery. And like, let's just use this as an example, say, I put a house on there and that might not come for five or 10 years, but it can come depending upon like how your life is working for you. And I think that starting out at the beginning of how simple it could be with just a parking spot, not even money, but like just trusting and knowing that I'm going to get a great parking spot. That's like the smallest little manifestation that I could think of to share right now.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah. And it all comes with like, whether or not you believe it to be true as well. So like, you can say, "I'm going to get a great parking spot", but also at the same time, be like, "Yeah, right. That's not going to happen." Like, there's that conflicting, uh, messaging inside your brain that's happening. So it's a lot of inner work. It's a lot of like breaking down the worthiness around bringing in the things that you love. So doing small things like, there's so much free resources out there on manifestation, but someone I truly love to follow is Lacey Phillips and to be magnetic and she has so many free resources, I'm just getting started and breaking down that worthiness around the things that you want.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Hm. I love that. Thank you for sharing that. I also want to add into the car manifestation and what you said in the beginning. I really didn't, I would have that tug of war almost inside myself being like, "I believe it." And then being like, "Yeah, that's not real", but until I actually surrendered and I was just like, "Oh, what the fuck, I'm going to just let it go and see if it's really possible." That detachment allowed me to always get the best parking spot. It's almost, when you go into a restaurant and you put in an order, right? You don't ever question that the order is not going to come out the way that you want it to be. You just expect it to be that way. So if you can almost have that knowing of, "Hey, I'm- I'm manifesting this, I'm calling this in. It's totally coming to me." It can either be super quick or it might take awhile. But if you are taking the inspired action, like you said, it's going to happen.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Right. Absolutely. And it's something that's like, even if it doesn't come out the exact way that you wanted it to, you can always shift gears or send it- send the food back and it comes back how you wanted it. Right? So like, even if you walk into a Starbucks and they get your order wrong, they're going to make it right. So it's having that ultimate faith of like, you will not leave this place without having exactly what you came there for. And that's beautiful to think about too.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. One more thing I definitely want to talk about with you right now is if you have any tips for people during this time with COVID-19 on like what's going on with their money and like what they can do. That would be amazing.

MEAGHAN WALL:

Yeah. The biggest thing that I have right now is just to go to the people that you pay, your phone, bill, your rent, all of your main bills. So many people are giving credits. So many people are extending payments so that if you need money in the short-term, right now. If you haven't prepared in the way of like an emergency fund and you need cash right now, there's no harm in asking. Everyone knows that everyone else is struggling. So your land person, like the person that you rent from, I know for a fact that like Verizon and big phone companies are helping people out, as well as student loans, you can get deferred payments. You can call your credit card companies and get fees removed.

A lot of companies are helping people out right now. So I would just say, don't be afraid to ask because, I mean, the worst they can say is no, but they're probably going to be really nice about it. They're probably going to be like, "Look, we really understand, but that's not something that we can do right now." And you'll be like, "Okay, great. Thank you so much. At least I asked and now I know", but a lot of times you'll get some kind of credit. You'll get something.

ASHLEY SPEDALE:

Yeah, absolutely. Thank you so much for those tips. Yeah. And it's been so wonderful having you on the show today. I would love for you to just share where everybody can find you and what you have going on. If people would like to learn more about you and connect with you or want your support with anything.
